Patrick L. Miller, Attorney at Law has practiced law in the Baton Rouge area since 1981 maintaining a successful practice handling a full spectrum of business and contract matters with an emphasis in the representation of lenders, real estate agents, sellers, borrowers, builders and developers in real estate settlement and related matters. He formed Preferred Title Company in 1996 for the purpose of establishing a title closing company to provide title examination, escrow closing, and related real estate title services. In conjunction with Preferred Title Company, Mr. Miller maintains a law practice as Patrick L. Miller, A Professional Law Corporation for the general practice of law. His education includes a Bachelor of Science degree from McNeese State University (B.S.-1976) and a Juris Doctor from the LSU-Law Center (J.D. -1980). He is an authorized title producer for Stewart Title Guaranty Company, The Security Title Guarantee Corporation of Baltimore, and First American Title Insurance Company. Pat has developed expertise in the real estate industry throughout Louisiana in both the residential and commercial markets.
Pat is certified as an Instructor by the Louisiana Real Estate Commission, and Preferred Title Company is a licensed vendor for pre-licensing, post-licensing and continuing real estate education. He obtained a Louisiana Real Estate Salesman's license in 1972 and has maintained an active Broker's License since 1979. He was commissioned as a Notary Public in 1981.
Pat has served in the Louisiana Army National Guard from 1971 to 1977, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-5) and served as the Chief Fire Direction Computer, Heavy Mortar Platoon, Support Co., 3rd Battalion, 156th Infantry Regiment.
He has been active in the following professional organizations: Baton Rouge Bar Association, Louisiana State Bar Association, Baton Rouge Independent TItle Attorneys (Past President), Louisiana Association of Independent Land Title Agents (President 2011-12), National Association of Independent Land Title Agents (Treasurer 2014-2018), Louisiana Land Title Association (Board of Directors 2011-14). American Land Title Association and Greater Baton Rouge Association of Realtors (Affiliate of the Year 1998). Pat has served on the Board of the Louisiana Mortgage Lenders FOundation since 2011 and is a Board Member of the Cajun Relief Foundation, LLC.
Pat has been an instructor for the National Business Institute Continuing Legal Education "Title Law in Louisiana" on numerous occasions; he is a presenter for the Professionalism Program presented by the Baton Rouge Independent Title Attorneys for credit with the Louisiana State Bar Association-Mandatory Continuing Legal Education; Pat has been a guest lecturer for Security Title's CE programs; he was a presenter for LLTA's "Title 101" CE program given to the LA Department of Insurance in 2010; presented "Issues Facing the Louisiana TItle Agent" at the LLTA TItle Summit in October 2010 and again at the December 2010 LLTA Annual Meeting; and was a presenter at the NAILTA 2012 Annual Convention, and is a co-contributor to the NAILTA Agent's Blue Ribbon Certification Program.Pata presently serves by appointment of the Commissioner of the Insurance on the Louisiana Title Insurance Advisory Council; is a consultant with LSU Office of Assessment and Evaluation for the statewide Notary Exam; is an Association Editor of the "Fundamentals of Louisiana Notarial Law and Practice" the Official Study Guide for the Notary Public Examination, serves by appointment of the Louisiana State Bar Association to the Secretary of State's Notary Study Committee per 2011 HCR 45 of the Loisiana Legislature; and is currently Co-Chair of the LSBA's Uniform TItle Standards Committee (2013-2015). Pat was recently appointed by the Louisiana State Bar Association to sit on a panel reviewing the role of the Louisiana Notary Public and the legal services provided by non-attorny notaries, and currently sits on a committee of the Louisiana Law Institute reviewing the implementation of the use of electronic signatures, and the need for E-Recording and E-Notary statutes in Louisna.
