Olivia K Byers
Olivia K. Byers specializes in residential real estate, specializing in successions, and is based out of the Title Stream Metairie Office. Olivia’s primary focus is residential and commercial real estate closings for properties throughout southeast Louisiana, but she also handles all matters ancillary to the title process, such as reviewing successions, community property settlements, drafting restrictions, boundary disputes, etc.
Before a potential new file is even opened, Olivia is already skimming the land records for general title conflicts so that she can brief clients ahead of time on what to expect through out the process. No two transactions are ever the same in real estate, and Olivia enjoys identifying and suggesting solutions on issues before clients even realize there is a problem.
A native of Baton Rouge, Olivia received her B.S. and Juris Doctorate from Louisiana State University. She has two Fantasy Football championships, but has lost count on how many times she has been to Disney World; and yes, she will return your calls to ensure the happiest place on Earth is at her closing table.
James E. Smith Jr. (Jim) presently heads the Residential Services Department and is the Manager of the Title Stream Uptown Office, located on Maple Street in New Orleans, Louisiana. Jim offers extensive experience in land use and all real estate matters. He manages an active real estate practice and directs projects of various sizes and characters. Jim represents buyers, sellers, and lenders in real estate transactions, including all types of contract and document preparation and numerous real estate financings.
In his younger years, Jim represented various gaming companies and contributed as an author of the successful Riverboat Gaming Act, permitting riverboat gambling on Louisiana’s waterways. Before founding the law firm Smith Martin in 1984, which is now Smith and Treuting, L.L.C., Jim was a staff attorney for the Federal Energy Commission of the U.S. Department of Energy in Washington D.C.
Jim received his undergraduate degree from Boston College. He then attended Cambridge University in England where he received an L.L.B., followed by attending George Washington University where he received an L.L.M.
Jim is authorized to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the U.S. Tax Court and the Supreme Court of Louisiana. He is a member of the New Orleans Bar Association and the Louisiana State Bar Association (sections on Real Estate, Business and Corporate Law).
When not practicing law, Jim likes to fish, go sailing, play with his dog and spend time with his wife and children.
