Fiber Optics Basics

This course will cover the basics of Fiber optics. Fiber optics (the technology of transmitting light down thin strands of highly transparent optical fibers of glass or plastic) is used throughout the electrical industries for communication systems, electrical controls, sensing devices, lighting, medicine, and numerous other applications. This course will overview the historic background of fiber optics, and how fiber optics cable is constructed, focusing primarily on the practical applications of fiber optics to the communication systems in the electrical field. Termination and splicing of fiber optic cable will be covered.

Roy has held a Nebraska Journeyman's license since 1996. He has completed the 4 year instructor training program sponsored by the Electrical Training Alliance in Ann Arbor, MI in 2011. Roy has been teaching continuing education courses for the Lincoln Electrical JATC since 2001. He has taught code related courses (updates, calculations), Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program, electrical installation requirements, Fire alarm, Conduit Bending and Foreman training.
