2019 Home Builders Association Forecast

This presentation identifies future buying and selling opportunities in the New Orleans Market. The overall goal of this presentation is to give those in attendance information regarding current interest rates and projected interest rates into 2019. It will give information on how those rates will affect originations. This presentation will give information on mortgage products that are available. Since we are in a rising rate environment, several mortgage products will be discussed that will benefit borrowers by keeping payments lower. We will discuss how PMI companies are getting creative by adding value to their products and give a refresher on PMI.

Joe Uzee

Joe Uzee has 26 years of lending experience. He consistently produces in the top ten percent of his peers. He manages his own team, which accounts for 15% of his company’s production. A graduate of University of New Orleans, 1988, BS/Management, he is state licensed as an originator.

Joe continues to contribute time to the educational initiatives of the Preservation Resource Center, and A Shared Initiative, first time homebuyer education. Joe is an affiliate member of the New Orleans Metropolitan Women’s Council of Realtors and the Home Builder's Association. He is an active member in the Louisiana Mortgage Lender’s Association.

In 2018, New Orleans City Business recognized Joe with their award for Excellence in Construction and Real Estate Lending.

Wade Ragas

Dr. Ragas earned a PhD from The Ohio State University in the area of Real Estate Finance and held the rank of both Full Professor and Research Professor at UNO. After 30 years, he retired from UNO in 2005 but continued his activity in real estate valuation and economic forecasting. He has authored an appraisal textbook, over 32 national published articles and a 35-year history of local economic forecasts.

His private practice today serves most of the major law firms and petrochemical companies of the region plus the needs of several large real estate developers as well as family trusts and estates. His expert valuation and damages testimony has been cited and relied upon in decisions by the Louisiana Supreme Court, Eastern and Western Federal District Courts and the Federal Circuit Court of Claims and in numerous Louisiana Civil Court cases.

Since Hurricane Katrina, as a private consultant, Dr. Ragas has assisted in evaluating new construction or redevelopment efforts for over $2 billion of projects in the New Orleans area. He serves on the Board of Directors of Mutual Savings and has been active in civic organizations, where, as real estate committee chair, he oversaw redevelopment of about 2,000 units of affordable housing in the Lafitte Housing Community as well as elderly housing for Christopher Homes and the Willwoods Community.
